In its 18th year GenRyu Arts has served over 1,000,000 people from the Asian American and multicultural community of the San Francisco Bay Area through:

  1. Bullet   Public Performances. 

  2. Bullet   A Taiko and Dance school located at the JCCCNC.

  3. Bullet   School-site residencies and assembly performances.

  4. Bullet   A professional performing arts ensemble creating collaborations among artists

  5.      of all genres.

 
An In-School Instruction Program that has taught Taiko and Odori to over 2,000 student participants in the San Francisco Unified School District and beyond. For the 2009-10 school year,
GenRyu Arts is providing programs at Clarendon Alternative School (30 weeks) and William De Avila Elementary (12 weeks) in San Francisco and American International Montessori in Berkeley (26 weeks) to a total of 190 students. This is the 11th consecutive year of providing instruction at Clarendon.  Additionally, GenRyu Arts provides an after-school instruction program in collaboration with the Community Youth Center of San Francisco and Asian Improv aRts to provide taiko and dance instruction to participants at Redding School (SFUSD) in San Francisco’s Tenderloin.
 
A popular Taiko and Dance school located at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, holding classes 4 days a week for 45 weeks per year
providing instruction to 50 children (ages 4-17) and 15 adults.  In addition to regular classes, the school hosts special workshops with guest master artists in minyo (folk song), bon odori (folk dance), shamisen (Japanese 3 stringed instrument) and Taiko.

Residencies

School

GenRyu Arts has produced 12 full evening length concerts at the JCCCNC, the Gershwin Theater at the University of San Francisco, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts,
Grand performances in LA, and Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago with its ensemble members, guest artists and students featuring traditional works, as well as original music and theater pieces.  An average of 25 Public Performances per year at various community events and festivals including appearances at the Japantown Peace Plaza, San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Asian Art Museum, as well as school performances through Young Audiences, Inc.
